Baked Beans Recording

                                Kim's Piano Studio
                                       presents...

...the arrival of one of the finest instruments available for recording in the Northeast.  As a joint venture between
Baked Beans Recording Studio, Inc and my wife's piano teaching business, Kim's Piano Studio, this gorgeous, *fully-restored*, 1930 Model "A", Mason & Hamlin grand piano (photos below) is now ready to satisfy those purists who, understandably, will only record piano on the "real thing".  This IS that instrument--sweet and bell-like clarity of tone--perfect for the highest quality recording.

*Brand new, top-end Renner action.  New pin block and soundboard. Original Ebony and Ivories.  New strings
and bridges.  Fully re-finished Circasian Walnut cabinet (a highly figured extinct wood!).  Restoration by Michael and Myles Kaufmann--specializing exclusively in Mason&Hamlin and Steinway restoration for over 31 years.

To record this beauty, we use two stereo pairs of mics ( Schoeps and Earthworks far and near respectively) and a True Systems P2A preamp, going direct to Pro Tools HD -- a combination that is absolutely transparent and deadly quiet -- no hiss to be heard, even at very high gain levels.

Additionally, the room in which the piano resides was custom built from the ground up for this purpose. Auralex acoustic treatment has made the room ideal for recording:  just the right amount of "livliness" without any boominess or weird reflections to cause phase correlation problems.

To top it all off, the location is perfect:  the studio sits on top of a small mountain on a dead-end road with no auto traffic to contaminate your recording.  As you sit at the keys, you can gaze out the window for inspiration at a panoramic view of the White Mountains of New Hampshire...Mt. Washington looks like it is right in your lap.  Awesome is the only word that comes to mind.

Recording on this piano is, of course, by appointment only.  Professional tuning just before the recording session is standard.  Contact Alan or Kim at 207-583-2923 for more information.
